When one first sets out from the parking area the sound of running water is actually from a piped spring that lies just north of the trail. Near canyon creek lovers camp campground is close to fantastic hiking trails and the marble mountain wilderness. The lover s camp trailhead is the starting point for popular hikes to marble valley sky high lakes red rock valley little elk lake and deep lake. There are also accommodations here for equestrians.

As you hike take in the beauty of the plants around you. The trail up canyon creek is about a 7 mile hike of moderate difficulty and along with its connecting trails including the pacific crest trail pct offers dramatic scenery and excellent camping. Early on a trail branches off to the east towards red rock valley but that s a trip for another day. From the lover s camp trailhead the trail climbs gradually along canyon creek.

Be sure to park in area designated and not in campsites. Even though the trial parallels canyon creek for most of its length it is rarely within site of the creek situated high above it on the slopes of the canyon. There are more than 500 different plant species in the marble mountain wilderness and the wildflowers are particularly spectacular. This is a great starting point to hike to marble valley sky high lakes red rock valley little elk lake and deep lake.
